Opening of AlmaLusa Comporta

6 years since the opening of the renowned and award-winning AlmaLusa Baixa/Chiado in the historic area of Lisbon, AlmaLusa Hotels announces the opening of AlmaLusa Comporta on the 17th of November.

Like its first boutique abode in the centre of Lisbon (AlmaLusa Baixa/Chiado), AlmaLusa Comporta is imbued with the spirit of its surrounding locale – from natural fibres inspired by shoreline flora and fauna, to neutral furnishings that pay homage to sandy dunes nearby.

Comprising 53 rooms, of which 31 suites, AlmaLusa Café and The RoofTop Bar, AlmaLusa Comporta will offer stylish surfers and holidaymakers a laid-back luxury escape on Portugal’s chicest coastline, oft-cited as ‘Europe’s Hamptons’.

The Location

Just 80 minutes outside Portugal’s capital, the fishing and rice producing village of Comporta offers secluded golden beaches, excellent restaurants, a treasure trove of shopping boutiques, scenic trails to explore on foot or bike and a deep connection to nature.

Exclusively the only hotel in the village of Comporta, and the only one in the area within walking distance of a beach, AlmaLusa Comporta is in a prime location for beach enthusiasts and nature lovers. The village’s wide range of fashionable boutiques, cafes and restaurants can also be found on its doorstep.

The Rooms

All 22 rooms – many of which offer balconies, private gardens and terraces - are individually designed with coastal chic interiors and colour palettes, in harmony with the property’s natural surroundings. To ensure the utmost comfort and ease for guests, each room is equipped with indulgent, goose down bedding, Castelbel bathroom amenities, and a Samsung Smartphone (with 30 minutes international calls per day and unlimited internet). Accessible rooms and adjoining rooms are also available.

The 31 Suites, each with a small kitchen, are the perfect option for guests looking for a more intimate, private holiday but with the advantage of being able to access the hotel’s dining and leisure facilities.

The Culinary Offering

Headed up by Alentejo local Miguel Lopes – a charismatic 29-year-old with experience spanning several regional restaurants – Lopes will oversee the unique culinary concepts at AlmaLusa Comporta. Eschewing any form of fine dining experience, AlmaLusa Comporta will debut a more low-key, yet equally delicious offering that encourages guests to make the most of the region.

By day, guests can sample locally inspired light bites from the AlmaLusa Café or on the Pool Terrace when the weather is warmer, whilst by night The Rooftop Bar will be ‘the’ place for evening tapas, light dishes and cocktails, best enjoyed whilst listening to soulful sounds courtesy of the resident DJ.During the cooler months, the hotel’s Library Bar will provide cosy corners to retreat too after a day’s exploration.

Each morning the Duna Room will serve a fantastic healthy breakfast, with fresh seasonal produce and home-made pastries, whilst picnics to go are also available.

In a bid to encourage guests to experience local restaurants, the hotel has curated a list of culinary experiences with local establishments. From Nuno Mendes’ apprentice’s celebrated Restaurantes Cavalariça to O Dinis – Restaurante dos Pescadores – formally a modest beach hut, it welcomes visitors from all around the region and in the height of summer a table is hard to secure – with AlmaLusa Comporta’s team on hand to make it so.

Wellbeing by AlmaLusa Comporta

During the day The Rooftop Wellness terrace is where fitness enthusiasts can train with local HiiTand yoga instructors – with a myriad of classes and private PT sessions available. These are complemented by the ultimate off-site running track - the surrounding beaches and dunes.

A soothing Spa Suite will soon offer Elemental Herbology treatments all year around, with outdoor spa cabanas available on sunnier days.

Being a good neighbour – sustainability at AlmaLusa Comporta

Mindful of its carbon footprint and surrounding natural environment, AlmaLusa is seeking to be as sustainable as possible. The building itself is a careful conversion of a pre-existing building whilst solar panel generators aim to power much of the building’s electricity. Car-free visits are encouraged with collections from rail and ferry terminals, with e-bikes and e-scooters on site for local travel needs, whilst Chef Miguel and team seek out produce that’s seasonal and with nearby provenance. Complementing this sensibility is the fact that all suppliers have been carefully chosen based on their own commitments to the environment – AlmaLusa’s laundry partner adopts a specific washing method that uses 80% less water than traditional machines.
