Sustainability
AlmaLusa: in Portuguese Alma is “soul” and Lusa stands for the Lusitanian people. This means that the brand proudly showcases the best of Portugal and the local community through art, suppliers, people, and activities. We love to welcome guests that are looking for a genuine experience and contribute actively to be a part of the local traditions and heritage.
At AlmaLusa Comporta, we base our work on a strong social responsibility policy and efficient management model, that allows us to reduce the environmental impact and carbon footprint.
AlmaLusa Hotels strongly believes that the hospitality industry must play an active role in respecting the environment and participating in the community, to promote its sustainable development. It is all about telling the story of each location, respecting the locals, and helping to protect their heritage.
Being a Local
AlmaLusa Comporta believes in being rooted and tied to the local community. It is all about being local, sustainable, connecting with and supporting our community.
AlmaLusa hotels work consistently to partner up with all sectors of the local community. Such an approach is reflected in different actions to develop, assist and promote the region. This support is demonstrated by more than just donations and contributions.
Actions to date:
We donate 15% of the net revenue from the sale of items such as local works of art to Fundação Herdade da Comporta, a local charity that helps to alleviate hardship and need in the immediate area.
We employ local residents whenever possible and continue to invest in training programs - more than 60% of our team is local.
We buy local ingredients:
- All our fresh fish offerings are caught, sourced and bought locally, just 5km away, from a local fisherman;
- Our oysters are from the Sado river – also 5km from the hotel;
- We source as much fresh produce as possible, reducing transport emissions;
- Bread, cured meats and cheeses are from the vicinity of Alentejo as well as from the main city of Alcácer do Sal.
Wines | our wine list aims to showcase all the wine regions of the country, with a strong emphasis on the local wines such as Herdade da Comporta.
We encourage and showcase local artists, serving as an art gallery to the village.
Restaurants | by not serving traditionally full meals on the property, we encourage our guests to go out and use the wide choice of local restaurants and cafés in Comporta. We are also partnering with key local restaurants to create a range of tailored events.
